The Alameda in San Jose is a major arterial of historic character originally known as “The Kings Highway.” Avalon on the Alameda creates a two block long neighborhood shopping district with residential loft units above. Shops, cafes and small retail courtyards line a broad sidewalk that has been embellished with historic streetlamps and benches to create an appealing pedestrian environment. The 307 unit project is organized along a central landscaped pedestrian spine that begins at the retail frontage and terminates at a community center and swimming pool.
